HELPING OUR FARMERS IN NEED
As widely reported over the past weeks, Australia’s farming communities have been doing it tough under the heavy physical, mental and financial toll brought about by the severe inland drought across the country. Led by ClubsNSW, the NSW Club industry has responded to this crisis in force and I am proud to say our Club is no exception. To provide immediate impact, CTC has pledged $50,000 to drought relief and over the next short while, we will be rolling out a series of activities to support and enhance our contributions. LOWER BAR OPENING
I hope that by now, many of you will have taken the opportunity to enjoy the reopened Lower Bar. It was nice to see so many of you and your guests at the opening events and I was delighted to hear the wonderful feedback. With spring now here, I encourage you to come in and enjoy the fantastic atmosphere and surroundings – and to perhaps even book your next function there. It is important to note that this impressive renovation would not have been possible without the relentless efforts of our staff and leadership team over the past year and I congratulate them on their achievement of this great transformation.
MAMBO SATURDAYS
On the topic of the Lower Bar, from Saturday 1st September, we launched a brand new event in the room called Mambo Saturdays. This fortnightly event is enlivening the room with Latin sounds and dancing and it is party time twice a month! We have collaborated extensively with security experts and the City of Sydney Police to ensure the events are memorable for all the right reasons and that the party – and the Lower Bar – become the talk of the town.
ESPERANTO CLOSING
Thank you for all your support and feedback as we said goodbye to the Esperanto Dining Room over the past few months. We are still deciding on what the future holds for this special space, but will keep you posted on any developments.
RACE DAY/SPRING CARNIVAL
Spring is always a great season in the Club’s calendar, with horseracing such a proud part of our history. This October, as is tradition, the Club will be hosting the City Tattersalls Club Cup Day once again at Royal Randwick Racecourse with a party as Sydney gets into the swing of Spring Carnival.
This year, the Club has again made available 150 tickets to the event for purchase by Life and Gold Members in addition to the 70 complimentary tickets for Members and their guests available through the online ballot. This is to ensure as many of you as possible have the chance to be a part of this fantastic event.
Just around the corner is The Race That Stops the Nation. It will be another wonderful day to celebrate with friends and family. We are looking forward to another bumper day in the Club house, full of vibrant colours and happy faces. Please make your bookings now, so that you are not disappointed.
BOONOONA OPEN
A short precis from CTC Ski Club President Michael Sterndale-Smith on this year’s Boonoona Open: This year had 71 starters across all ages and in both the Classical and Freestyle cross-country skiing disciplines. The weather was good and, even with a little tech malfunction, the races pretty-well started on time. Most if not all the racers came to Boonoona for the prizes and to applaud the winners and placegetters for the various events. Matt and Luanne put on a great event of food and drinks for the appreciative crowd and the event finished around the seven o’clock mark – just in time for dinner for the Boonoona guests that night. The Boonoona Open is the second event in a challenging week of cross-country skiing for NSW and other states’ competitors. Camille Melvey representing CTC was again well-placed in finishing 2nd in the Women’s Open Classical.
